What should I do for a personal memorial service?

Tomorrow will mark the 2-year anniversary of one of my good high school friends passing away after a long battle with cancer. Last year I held a highly personal memorial service – just for myself – where I dropped rose petals into a local river and sat and meditated. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule, I won’t have free time until late at night when the park/river area will be closed.

I’d like some suggestions about things I could do in memory of him without trespassing anywhere.

You could meditate with favorite music or other audio sounds your friend enjoyed.

Also, write something, like expand upon this Yahoo Answers question. For example, I wrote this when my dad died:

"Wise Words From My Dad, A Self Employed Business Man From Kentucky, Who Just Passed Away"

…so write something special you gained form your friend and keep the memory alive helping others who read it on a blog, in article directories, etc.

  1. Just find a quiet place – even if it’s your own home – and spend a few moments reflecting on him and what he meant in your life. It’s enough that you remember, it doesn’t have to be more than that.

  2. For myself, I like to light candles at home for my loved one. I display a picture or pictures that remind me of the good times we had, and place a lit candle in front of the pic. Sometimes I’ll buy flowers and place them around the pictures.

I also like to call or get together with mutual friends so we can cry together, and also remember the good times and laughs we had.

You could also make a donation (if you can swing it in these tough times) to a cancer research facility or something in that person’s name.
